Client/Organization: Jackson National Life
Project Type: Software Systems Training & Digital Adoption
Authoring Tool: Articulate Rise 360 with Camtasia video clips
Target Audience: Internal Employees
Project Overview: Interactive Articulate Rise walkthroughs and simulations designed to support a multi-tier software rollout for sales associates and wholesalers.
The Challenge: Previous software changes led to sales team downtime that resulted in loss of funds for the company. Additionally, employee work tempo is high, so there was no time for traditional PDF manuals and hour-long live demonstrations. Therefore, this scalable, asynchronous, self-paced training solution was created to break down the complex dashboard interface into digestible, accessible segments.
The Solution:
Designed modular "Try-It / Do-It" software simulations featuring interactive screen recordings, voiceovers, and dynamic visual callouts in Adobe Premiere Pro and Camtasia.
Developed structured PowerPoint storyboards and reusable design libraries to streamline future development.
Executed rigorous multi-device testing to ensure seamless SCORM LMS integration and error-free user data tracking.
Technical Specs & Compliance: Articulate Rise, Storyline 360, Camtasia, SCORM 1.2/2004, Section 508 (Screen-reader friendly, keyboard navigation).
Key Outcome: Standardized training across teams, reduced support requests during rollout, and provided a reusable asset library for new employees. The course was completed on time and underwent a rigorous testing phase to ensure a flawless full launch.
The instructional design team developed an interactive set of modular courses using Articulate Rise 360 and microlearning videos developed in Camtasia. I developed three courses including the first of the series, which served as a visual "tour" of the dashboard, dedicating specific sections to each individual tab. By leveraging Rise 360’s responsive design, custom blocks, and diverse interactive blocks; the training transformed a dense software manual into an engaging, multi-modal series that rolled ot seemlessly and on time.
The course architecture was purposefully aligned with the physical layout of the dashboard. Instead of overwhelming the learner with theory, the training utilized specific Rise 360 blocks to simulate the user interface and workflow:
Tab-by-Tab Breakdown (Tabs Interactive Block): The core of the course utilized Rise’s Tabs block to mirror the dashboard's actual top-level navigation. Learners could click through tabs within the course, revealing specific details and use cases for each dashboard screen.
Targeted Dropdown Guidance (Labeled Graphics & Accordions): To address confusion around the dashboard's nested menus and filters, the team used Labeled Graphic blocks. Markers were placed over screenshots of the dropdown menus; when clicked, a pop-up explained the exact function of each filter criterion. Accordion blocks were also used to cleanly stack text explaining complex multi-select dropdown logic without cluttering the screen.
Mini Video Clips (Multimedia Blocks): Recognizing that software is best learned through observation, short (15- to 30-second) screencast videos were embedded throughout the course. These high-definition, silent looping clips demonstrated specific cursor movements, such as hovering over data points to reveal tooltips or smoothly navigating between dashboard environments.
Workflow Execution (Process & Step Blocks): Navigating a dashboard is only half the battle; users needed to know how to execute tasks. Rise’s Process block was used to break down core workflows into linear, carousel-style steps. For example, a "How to Export a Custom Report" process block guided users through: 1) Selecting the date range, 2) Applying specific dropdown filters, 3) Choosing the file format, and 4) Executing the download.
Knowledge Verification (Assessments & Knowledge Checks): To ensure retention, formative Knowledge Check blocks (matching, multiple-choice, and sorting activities) were placed at the end of each tab’s module. A final summative Assessment required learners to identify the correct tabs and dropdown sequences needed to solve real-world business scenarios, ensuring they were ready to use the live dashboard.
The Rise 360 dashboard onboarding course delivered immediate, measurable results for the organization:
Pre-Launch testing phase with minimal edits
Launch to the full team the week of 31 August 2026
By utilizing Articulate Rise 360's dynamic blocks—specifically mini videos, process flows, and labeled graphics—the organization successfully demystified a complex software interface, ensuring the employees had a very minimal transition period.
